MetaSyntax

2025

MetaSyntax is a series of abstract artworks that explores the tension between structure and interpretation, interrogating the visual "grammar" underlying meaning itself. Each piece functions like a sentence stripped of recognisable language - marks, forms, and fragments arranged with deliberate cadence yet devoid of traditional narrative. The series challenges viewers to decode a system that is simultaneously constructed and collapsing, where logic is implied but never confirmed. By blending hard-edged geometry with erratic, organic gestures, the works oscillate between precision and ambiguity, reflecting the complexity of how we assign and perceive meaning.

At its core, MetaSyntax is concerned with the abstract mechanics of communication - how systems, whether visual, linguistic, or cultural, govern what we see and what we think we understand. The prefix “meta” signals a self-awareness: these artworks are not only compositions, but reflections on composition itself. Through layered textures, disrupted patterns, and negative space, the series invites viewers into a feedback loop of interpretation. It asks: What happens when syntax loses its subject? Can abstraction speak without a fixed language? In navigating this fragmented terrain, MetaSyntax becomes a meditation on both the possibilities and limits of meaning-making.
